SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. — At least five homes were evacuated here Sunday afternoon Valve plate after a truck plowing snow from a driveway broke a valve off a 1,000-gallon Electromagnetism valve propane tank at the Yellow Brick Bank restaurant on East German Street, Hydraulic cylinder according to a Shepherdstown Fire Department spokesman.
When the truck struck the tank, its axle became lodged on the stem of the gas tank, said Bob Burner, an emergency services captain for the fire department.
Because any metal that divided valve rubs together can cause a spark, rescue workers had to be careful about how they removed the truck from the tank, Burner said.
Instead of using a chain to pull the truck off the tank, workers used a fabric strap, Burner said.
